Alfa-Amylase 200 U.CEIP/ml syrup from Biogaran is a medicine intended to relieve mild sore throats without fever. It is suitable for adults and children aged at least 6 months.
Its active substance is alfa-amylase, dosed at 200 U.CEIP for 1 ml of syrup, which corresponds to 142.86 European Pharmacopoeia units per ml of syrup. The list of excipients is as follows: sucrose, glycerol, sodium methyl parahydroxybenzoate (E219), sodium propyl parahydroxybenzoate (E217), tangerine essential oil (contains alcohol (ethanol)), citric acid monohydrate and purified water.
Dosage of Alfa Amylase 200 U.CEIP/ml
Oral route
Intended for the whole family (from 6 months). This syrup for sore throats takes different dosages depending on age.
Adults will take 1 tablespoon, or 15 ml, 3 times a day.
Children over 3 years old, weighing more than 15 kg, will be administered 2 teaspoons (10 ml) 3 times a day.
Finally, infants aged 6 months and children up to 3 years old, whose weight is between 7 and 15 kg, will be administered 1 teaspoon (5 ml), 3 times a day.
Regarding the duration of treatment, this should not exceed 5 days, unless otherwise prescribed by a doctor. In addition, the recommended doses must be strictly respected.
Precautions for use of Alfa Amylase 200 U.CEIP/ml
If you are allergic to alpha-amylase or any of the other ingredients of this medicine, do not take this medicine.
Do not use this medication for prolonged periods without medical advice.
Alfa Amylase 200 U.CEIP/ml contains sucrose. If you have an intolerance to certain sugars, contact your doctor before taking this medication.
For patients with diabetes mellitus, note that this medication contains 2.8 g of sucrose per teaspoon (5 mL) and 8.4 g of sucrose per tablespoon (15 mL).
This medicine contains 56.25 mg of ethanol per 15 ml tablespoon of syrup which corresponds to 3.75 mg/ml (0.375% w/v). The small amount of ethanol contained in this medicine is not likely to cause any noticeable effects.
This medication is essentially “sodium-free”. It contains less than 1 mmol (23 mg) sodium per tablespoon (15 ml).

Pregnancy and breastfeeding
It is best not to use this medicine during pregnancy.
The use of this medication should be avoided during breastfeeding.
