HEC Ointment is a medication intended for adults and adolescents aged 15 and over. It comes in the form of an ointment for cutaneous and nasal application.
Indications for HEC Ointment
It is used to locally treat minor nosebleeds such as epistaxis and can also be used as an adjunct treatment for minor superficial skin burns.
Composition of HEC Hemostatic Ointment
It contains as active ingredients: phenazone (0.75 g), officinal tannin (12.5 g), and witch hazel fluid extract (0.75 g) per 100 g of ointment. It also contains excipients: Peruvian balsam, pectin, purified water, wool fat, glyceryl dibehenate, and medium-chain triglycerides.
H.E.C. Nasal Ointment Dosage
For rhinology (nosebleeds), use nasal wicks soaked in HEC ointment. For minor burns, apply topically once or twice a day.
Precautions to take with HEC nasal ointment?
You should not use HEC ointment if you are allergic to any of its ingredients or if you have infected lesions.
You should not use HEC ointment if you are receiving oxygen therapy, as it could pose a risk of burns due to the fatty substances in the ointment.
As a precaution, it is best not to use HEC ointment during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
HEC ointment: what are the side effects?
This ointment may cause adverse reactions in the form of local irritation: burning sensations, sneezing, runny or stuffy nose, skin reactions, and allergic reactions.
How should HEC nasal ointment be stored?
Keep out of the sight and reach of children.
Do not use after the expiration date on the packaging.
Store at a temperature not exceeding 25°C.
Do not use if signs of deterioration are visible.

You should consult your doctor if you do not feel any improvement or if you feel worse after the end of treatment.
2. WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW BEFORE USING HEC, Ointment for Cutaneous and Nasal Application?
Never use HEC, Ointment for Cutaneous and Nasal Application:
· if you are allergic to phenazone, tannic acid, witch hazel fluid extract, or any of the other ingredients of this medicine listed in section 6, including pyrazoles, Peruvian balsam, or wool fat (lanolin),
· if you are receiving oxygen therapy due to the risk of burns due to the presence of fatty substances in the ointment,
· if you have infected lesions.
Warnings and Precautions
Talk to your doctor or pharmacist before using HEC, Ointment for Cutaneous and Nasal Application.
It is important to inform your doctor if you (or a family member) have Glucose-6-Phosphate Dehydrogenase deficiency, as there is a risk of hemolysis (destruction of red blood cells) with topical phenazone.
Children
There is no relevant use of HEC, Ointment for Cutaneous and Nasal Application in the pediatric population.

Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking, have recently taken, or might take any other medicines.
Consuming HEC, Ointment for Cutaneous and Nasal Application with food and drink
Not applicable.
Pregnancy, breastfeeding, and fertility
There are no human data. HEC, ointment for cutaneous and nasal application is not recommended during pregnancy. It should not be used during breastfeeding.
If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, think you may be pregnant, or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor or pharmacist before taking this medicine.
Driving and using machines
Not applicable.
HEC, ointment for cutaneous and nasal application contains Peruvian balsam and wool fat (lanolin).
This medicine contains Peruvian balsam and may cause skin reactions.
This medicine contains wool fat (lanolin) and may cause local skin reactions (e.g., contact dermatitis).
3. HOW TO USE HEC, ointment for cutaneous and nasal application?
Always use this medicine exactly as described in this leaflet or as directed by your doctor or pharmacist. Check with your doctor or pharmacist if you have any doubts.
Dosage
Dermatology: The recommended dose is 1 or 2 applications per day.
Rhinology: As an impregnation of nasal wicks.
Method of administration
Cutaneous and nasal use.
If you use more HEC Cutaneous and Nasal Ointment than you should:
Rinse thoroughly with water.
Consult your doctor or pharmacist immediately.
If you forget to use HEC Cutaneous and Nasal Ointment:
Do not take a double dose to make up for a forgotten dose.
If you stop using HEC Cutaneous and Nasal Ointment:
Not applicable.

4. WHAT ARE THE POSSIBLE SIDE EFFECTS?
Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everyone gets them.
Local irritations such as burning sensations, sneezing, runny or stuffy nose, as well as skin and general allergic reactions that may be serious (itching, swelling of the face or throat, difficulty breathing) have been reported during post-marketing surveillance.

5. HOW TO STORE HEC, ointment for cutaneous and nasal application?
Keep this medicine out of the sight and reach of children.
Do not use this medicine after the expiry date printed on the packaging after EXP. The expiry date refers to the last day of that month.
Do not store above 25°C.
Do not use this medicine if you notice any visible signs of deterioration.
Do not dispose of any medicines via wastewater or household waste. Ask your pharmacist how to dispose of medicines no longer used. These measures will help protect the environment.
