Colocynthis is a plant strain extracted from the dried pulp of the colocynth plant.
The true colocynth is a perennial herbaceous plant of the Cucurbitaceae family which is not edible and which is usually used as an ornament. Indeed, the fruits of this creeping plant, cultivated on Mediterranean lands as well as in tropical countries, have a bitter and toxic pulp explaining its former use in traditional medicine and currently its interest in homeopathy.
The mother tincture obtained from this pulp undergoes several dilutions in order to eliminate its toxicity.
