Where does the Ignatia amara strain come from?
Ignatia amara granules is a homeopathic medicine from the Boiron laboratory, with its active strain derived from the St. Ignatius bean, the fruit of a climbing shrub native to the Philippines. It is very similar to the nux vomica seed, which is also used as the base for another homeopathic remedy: Nux vomica. This bean is believed to be named after the Spanish Basque priest Ignatius of Loyola, the founder of the Society of Jesus, more commonly known as the Jesuit order.
How is Ignatia amara prepared in granules?
Like nux vomica, the St. Ignatius bean contains brucine and strychnine, two toxic substances that have been used for a long time in certain medicinal formulas. Homeopathy is no exception, relying on its fundamental principles to justify its use.
Indeed, the main idea of this alternative medicine is based on the law of similars, established as a key pillar by its founder, Samuel Hahnemann. This principle suggests that the symptoms of an illness can be treated with substances that produce similar effects. The infinitesimal dilution process, another core principle of homeopathy, ensures the non-toxicity of the final product. This dilution is indicated by the CH scale.
Granule tubes allow multiple doses from a single tube. By turning the tube upside down, the desired number of granules can be dispensed into the cap.
This strain is also available in a single-dose form, taken all at once as Ignatia amara dose.
