The active ingredient of Iris versicolor granules is an extract of purple flowered iris rhizome.
This plant, recognizable by its tongue-shaped petals, is a species native to North America which appreciates humid environments such as marshes and stream banks. It is, for the most part, used as an ornamental flower in gardens or in pots. The rhizome of a plant corresponds to the underground part of its stem and generally concentrates the majority of the flower's nutritional reserves.

Once extracted, the rhizome is crushed and brought into contact with a hydroalcoholic solution in order to decompose the different active substances. The finished product, called mother tincture, is then diluted one hundredth in a solvent, purified water, in order to reduce its potentially toxic effects.
