This Boiron medication is made from a plant strain. This originates from ergot.

Rye ergot is a poisonous microscopic fungus that parasitizes rye crops and forms hard, black sclerotia in place of cereal grains. Sclerotia are the term used to designate these seeds which have been attacked by the fungus, ergot. The latter naturally produces alkaloids which are responsible for ergot poisoning. This disease is called ergotism, it is also called “St. Anthony's fire” and it manifests itself by muscular contractions and stricture of blood vessels.

To produce Secale cornutum granules, dried sclerotia were crushed and then macerated with a solvent including alcohol.
At the end of the maceration process, a mother tincture was obtained. It contains the assets of Secale cornutum. It is then diluted several times. The dilutions carried out, when they are to the hundredth, are called Hahnemannian Centesimals. Their name comes from the doctor who invented homeopathy more than two centuries ago.
After these multiple dilutions and the dynamization process, granules based on sucrose and lactose are impregnated with this diluted mother tincture.

Dosage of Secale cornutum granules

This homeopathic medicine is administered orally; in fact, the granules must melt under the tongue. In children under 6 years old, they should be dissolved in a little water.

Precautions for use of Secale cornutum granules

A doctor should be consulted if symptoms persist.

Secale cornutum granules contains two excipients with notable effects: lactose and sucrose. In case of intolerance to certain sugars, this medication in granules is not recommended.
