The Tea-tree essential oil produced by Dr Valnet is obtained by hydrodistillation of the leaves and branches of this plant. Known by the botanical name Melaleuca alternifolia, it is part of the Myrtaceae family, and is mainly grown on thousands of hectares of land in South Africa and Australia.
Otherwise called tea tree, this shrub can generally measure 4 to 5 meters high and lives on clay soils and near watercourses.
Cutaneously, by diluting it with a vegetable oil, tea tree essential oil essentially helps fight against skin and oral problems. Concentrated in monoterpinols and monoterpene oxides, it treats acne, boils, gingivitis and cystitis. These agents would also stimulate the immune system, combat fatigue and be known to treat wounds. One of its components would also have a strong acaridic power.
Applied in the form of a hair mask and combined with a vegetable oil, tea tree essential oil is said to keep lice and ticks away.
Orally, it would have a beneficial effect on ENT infections by mixing a few drops in honey. It would have an antiviral effect thanks to one of its components, terpinen-4-ol, which helps eliminate viruses.
Little used in diffusion, it is possible to breathe a few drops on a tissue to soothe slight anxiety and cleanse the respiratory tract.
Very versatile, tea tree essential oil must always be diluted in a vegetable oil when applied to the skin. Present in many cosmetics, it is the useful essential oil in any first aid kit.
