Product Information

Donormyl effervescent tablets are a medication composed of doxylamine. This sleep medication is available without a prescription. It is recommended for occasional insomnia in adults.

It belongs to the H1 antihistamine family and has a sedative and atropinic effect. Donormyl effervescent has been shown to reduce the time it takes to fall asleep and improve the duration and quality of sleep.

Each Donormyl effervescent tablet contains 15 mg of doxylamine succinate, plus the following excipients: sodium bicarbonate, anhydrous citric acid, anhydrous sodium hydrogen phosphate, anhydrous sodium sulfate, sodium benzoate, and macrogol 6000.

How to take Donormyl effervescent?

The recommended dosage is 1/2 to 1 tablet in a glass of water 15 to 30 minutes before bedtime.

In exceptional cases, this dosage may be increased to 2 tablets per day. However, it will be reduced in the elderly or in patients with renal impairment.

The duration of treatment is 2 to 5 days. Do not exceed this time limit without medical advice.

Precautions for use of Donormyl effervescent tablets

This sleep medication should not be taken by those under 15 years of age, by people allergic to any of its ingredients, by those with prostatic urinary retention, or by those with glaucoma.

Donormyl effervescent should be administered with caution to the elderly due to the risk of drowsiness, cognitive impairment, decreased responsiveness, and dizziness, which increase the risk of falls.

Donormyl should never be combined with alcoholic beverages. The sedation or drowsiness caused by Donormyl should encourage caution when driving vehicles or operating machinery.

The maximum daily dosage provides 1126 mg of sodium: be careful, this is a very high dose if you are on a low-sodium or strictly salt-free diet.

Do not combine Donormyl with another antihistamine or sodium oxybate.

This sleep medication can be used under medical supervision during pregnancy. Doxylamine is also indicated in other countries for nausea in pregnant women, but this is not the case in the French marketing authorization.

Donormyl may pass into breast milk; its use in breastfeeding women is therefore contraindicated.

Donormyl effervescent may cause daytime drowsiness, constipation, dry mouth, urinary retention, confusion, etc. Not all patients will experience these side effects.

Before taking this medication, it is advisable to read the package leaflet carefully and seek medical advice if necessary.
