Sugar-free Drill lozenge is a medicine composed of a local anesthetic and a local antiseptic. It is used to treat sore throat when it is mild and without fever. It is also indicated to treat canker sores and small mouth sores. Its use must be short-term (5 days), and is reserved for adults and children over 6 years old.
The active substances in this lozenge are chlorhexidine digluconate (3,000 mg) in the form of 20 percent chlorhexidine digluconate solution and tetracaine hydrochloride (0.200 mg) per lozenge.
The other ingredients are ascorbic acid, poppy flavor, pulmoral flavor, ammonium glycyrrhizinate, lubricant, aspartame and isomalt.
This lozenge is formulated without sugar, it is suitable for diabetic patients.
Dosage of Drill without sugar
The dosage of Drill without sugar for adults is 1 lozenge to be sucked 4 times a day.
For children between 6 and 15 years old, the dosage is 1 lozenge to be sucked 2 to 3 times a day.
Each lozenge must be sucked slowly without being chewed to allow the active ingredients to permeate the mucous membranes. The lozenges should be taken without meals and a period of 2 hours must be respected between each dose.
The duration of use is limited to 5 days of treatment. Beyond that, if no improvement occurs or if you notice worsening (fever, extent of oral lesions, difficulty swallowing, purulent sputum), you must consult a doctor.
Precautions for using Drill sugar-free lozenge
The use of the Sugar-free Drill lozenge is reserved for adults and children over 6 years old.
You should not use Drill without sugar in case of allergy to a local anesthetic or any component of the formula, as well as in case of phenylketonuria, due to the presence of aspartame.
This lozenge causes local anesthesia; it is important not to use it before a meal or drink, in order to avoid a misdirection with a risk of choking. This is why it should be used with caution in children under 12 years old.
Respect the dosage of this medication carefully. Indeed, repeated and prolonged use risks modifying the natural microbial balance of the mouth. Likewise, active substances can also pass into the bloodstream and can cause harmful effects on the nervous system (convulsions) and the heart.
You should not combine the sugar-free Drill lozenge with another specialty containing an anesthetic and/or an antiseptic, in order to avoid any risk of overdose.
It is best not to use this medicine during pregnancy. The use of this medication should be avoided during breastfeeding.
Please note, for athletes, this medication contains an active ingredient (tetracaine) which may cause a positive reaction during anti-doping controls.
