Metopimazine 7.5 mg orodispersible tablet Biogaran is an antiemetic medicine.
Indications for Metopimazine
It is indicated for the short-term treatment of nausea and vomiting when not accompanied by fever.
From what age is Metopimazine indicated?
It is suitable for adults and children over 6 years old. It is sugar free.
Composition of Metopimazine 7.5 mg orodispersible Biogaran
The active substance of this medicine is metopimazine. One tablet contains 7.5 mg.
The other ingredients of this medicine are microcrystalline cellulose (Avicel PH 101), aspartame, magnesium stearate, mannitol and corn starch.
Dosage of Metopimazine 7.5 mg
This medication is to be taken orally, 15 minutes before meals. A minimum interval of 4 to 6 hours must be respected between 2 administrations.
The tablet is to be placed on the tongue so that it disintegrates. You should not bite it.
The dosage must be adapted according to the schedule and intensity of the disorders and stop taking the medication as soon as the symptoms disappear.
Important information is that in all cases, the duration of treatment without medical advice should not exceed 2 days. Indeed, medical or pharmaceutical advice is required to continue treatment if the medication is insufficient for nausea and vomiting, if they last more than 2 days or if other symptoms appear.
Dosage of Metopimazine in adults
In adults, the maximum recommended dose is 30 mg/day, which corresponds to a maximum of 4 tablets, divided into 4 doses. You must take 1 tablet during symptoms, and repeat the intake if necessary if symptoms persist or reappear, without exceeding 4 tablets per day.
Dosage of Metopimazine in children over 6 years old
In children over 6 years old, the maximum dose is 15 mg/day, which corresponds to 2 tablets maximum, divided into 2 doses. This means that 1 tablet must be administered during symptoms, and if necessary repeat the administration.
Precautions for use of Metopimazine orodispersible tablets
You should never take this medicine if you are allergic to its active substance or to one of its other components; in case of glaucoma or in case of difficulty urinating, of prostate origin.
Do not take other medicines containing metopimazine in addition to this medicine: risk of exceeding the maximum recommended daily dose. Ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice if you are taking, have recently taken or might take any other medicines.
If you are elderly, or if you have serious kidney or liver disease, and drowsiness or dizziness appears while taking this medication, stop taking it and consult your doctor: this may be a sign of an overdose.
Do not drink alcoholic beverages during treatment.
One tablet contains 5 mg of aspartame, which is a source of phenylalanine. It can be dangerous for people with phenylketonuria.
Metopimazine pregnant and breastfeeding women
This medication should be used with caution during pregnancy or breastfeeding. Pregnant or breastfeeding women, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice.
Side effects of Metopimazine
Due to the risk of drowsiness and therefore the sedative effect of this medicine, driving and using machines may be dangerous.
Certain other side effects are very rarely reported such as orthostatic hypotension, cessation of periods, abnormal flow of milk, dry mouth, urinary retention, constipation, rash of spots, redness of the skin or impotence.
